Title Boum Boum Chicane Remix

3/5 : Good
Artist Enigma
Comments Not much can be said about Michael Cretu, so combining his work with Chicane was sure to be a good thing. Well, it is and it isn't. Firstly, I don't know why the Wally Lopez Remix gets billing as it's crap, like all his work. It's a shame that the Chicane track only gets just over 5 mins of airplay as it's a pretty good tune. It's a really nice feel to it, especially the chorus which has well sampled male vocals. The downside to this is the length which just kill it. Just as it starts to get real good, it ends; which is a major shame.

Artist Art of Trance
Comments The best artist on the best label, full stop. This is just an awesome tune, there are very few other words to describe this. The beginning is great; it has this mad sounds noise going on about the bass and the typical AoT wailing. There are so many places in this tune that sound like the other great ?Madagascar?; which I really like. This builds up well to the main chorus by throwing in some nice synths and piano work, then wham the good stuff. You get it all with some odd sounding male wailing, then even more piano work. This is so well produced; hence the artist knows the real art of trance.

Artist Chris Pointdexter
Comments This is just a funky funky tune. I originally bought this for another track on the EP called ?Tribal Thing?; but ?Darkness? is so much better. This has a really solid 135 BPM beat, with a really cool piece of synth work on top. Add to that a synth that reverbs in and out at various places, usually making the tune feel much faster. There's some nice subtle voice sampling in places, which just make this tune great. A really welcome surprise.

Artist Fractal Structure
Comments Quite superb this one. It gets down to business very quickly with a nice bouncy beat and a really well put together piano accompaniment that moves the tune along so well. The pause in the middle is quite haunting and ?relaxing?, but you've had a taste of what is coming and it just wets the appetite. This has obviously been put together by 'someone? who knows what they would want to hear and it works. A really cool tune that should be added to your collection.

Title Sincere for You Thrillseekers Mix

3/5 : Good
Artist Lange
Comments Lange meets The Thrillseekers, what a mixture. I admit that the first few times I heard this, I didn't like it. It has grown one me, but not as much as I thought it would. The vocals are the problem, they work and they don't. Don't get me wrong, Kirsty Hawkshaw has a great voice; but I'm not sure this goes. I haven't heard an instrumental so I can't comment. When it's moving, it's a nice tune; but not a real killer as I would expect.

Artist Quake Project
Comments Hard trance number this, packs a real punch. Bit samey in that it doesn't do much else than what you hear. That said, what you hear is very nice. Good solid beat with some cool drum work in the background. The synths are very simple and it does become a bit progressive that each ?bit? has been added to ever so slightly. Worth a listen.

Artist Max Graham vs. Starecase
Comments I do like a nice bit of progressive house now and then and these two are the masters. This is a real house tune that just keeps building up to more and more. There are some fantastic noises going on in the background and the main synth keeps changing tempo to keep you going. Nice feeling to this one, the progressive change works really well. Nice build up and even when the tune has ?ended? it still manages to keep going. A good tune.

Artist Factoria
Comments Eerie is a good word to describe this, especially the laughing that goes on ! This was released for Halloween and I can see why. This is a really strange tune, sort of different to the Original, but still has the same feel to it. Takes a while to get going, but once it's there it has a really good funky beat. The main chorus is quite catchy and the tribal like drum work is nice. There are also some nice extra synth noises thrown in for good measure, plus the chorus does go on for a bit; where other tend not to. This is a fun tune and worth getting.

Title Latigidi Eelke Kleijn Remix

2/5 : Not Bad
Artist Latigidi
Comments Well, this is a strange sounding artist / title if I've ever heard one ! This is a strange sort of house tune that promises quite a lot, but doesn't quite get there. To be honest, this doesn't sound as good as when I first heard it. Bit samey and dull in places, doesn't get of the floor and punch me in the face. Needs a bit more power.

Comments The original of this would be in my all time top 10 ten, it's that good. I'm always wary when people remake such great tunes, but this does hold up well. Nice 2004 touch bringing all the synths and noises into the present. I especially like the slow build up to the main chorus, sounds really awesome; makes them hairs stand up !! The newer sound is much fresher and to be honest is almost up there with the original, but the original is the best !! The good thing is that on this 12? you get both versions, which makes this an absolute essential for any collection. A brilliant tune, with a brilliant remix; what more do you want ?

Title Cause-In-Fact Empirical Labs Remix

2/5 : Not Bad
Artist Outback
Comments Not the best track I've heard from this lot, in fact I was very disappointed with this. Both mixes are very bland and don? really do much for my senses. When this sounds like it's going to get down and funky it stops. This is to be honest really moody house music and I would be somewhat surprised to hear this in a club as it just doesn't kick butt. A shame really.

Title Time Lapse Original Mix

3/5 : Good
Artist Sean Walsh
Comments This in places remind me of the Frankie Knuckles tune ?Tears? as the tune in the background is very similar. This is a very moving tune and it does feel quite passionate and serious. Not the usual squeaky stuff, this is much more dark and moody. This works OK, but it is a bit on the downside. It doesn't come across with that real happy feeling that you want to hear. Once it's in full flow, it delivers a decent trance sounding number; quite triumphant in the selection of synth and there is that ?Tears? noise; which I like. This is good and on a very good up and coming label.
Label First Second Records : Released October 2004

Title Gravity Arksun's Voyage Mix

This text will be replaced by the flash music player.

3/5 : Good
Artist P.O.S.
Comments This starts really chilled out, bit what you would expect from Arksun. It is quite blissful really, very relaxing. This doesn't last for too long and there's soon a very progressive bear been laid down. Got some good spaced out noises in the background, which keep the relaxed feel to this tune. The odd vocal of the word ?gravity? also add nicely to the whole feel. There's a nice feel and beat to this, although this is a very much end of set tune. If you like your progressive stuff on the slow side, this is for you.

Comments This would actually close the window you were working on, but I like the name; different. This has a very club like feel to it, which is nice. I can't quite put my finger on what it reminds me off, but I like the way this has been put together. There's a good twangy piano that is quite a refreshing sound and the build up is nicely progressive; it basically follows all the usual formulas. The main anthem is pacey, moves well and sounds good on the ears. Just when you think you've heard it all, there's a new synth introduced which freshens up things very well. This is a really good tune and worth checking out.

Comments For those of you who remember ?A Binary Star? by Denzel D, this is very similar. This is a very good thing indeed. A wonderfully put together tune that just oozes quality. The build up at the beginning just makes my body shiver, it's so so good. You are then treated to a real quality anthem that delivers exactly what you want to hear. It flows really well and flows for sometime, which is so important these days. You aren't teased at all with snippets here and there; this just throws the lot at you and says ?handle that matey?. This is a very worthy addition to any collection.
